Karma is a server-side setting in Barotrauma designed to discourage griefing. It penalizes players who harm others, with punishments that escalate the more they disrupt gameplay.
Various in-game actions can raise or lower a player’s Karma, making it an effective system to maintain fair and cooperative play.
Method 1: Configuring Karma on Your Barotrauma Server

2. Navigate to Settings.
3. Select Anti-Griefing.
4. Check the Use Karma box and choose a Karma Mode.
5. For further customization, select Custom from the dropdown menu and apply the necessary changes.
6. Click Close to save your adjustments.
This ensures a tailored anti-griefing system suited to your server’s needs.
Method 2: Configuring Karma Using Configuration Files
It is also possible to configure the karma settings through the karmasettings.xml file on your server's File Manager.
1. Log in to the Game Panel.
2. Stop the server before making changes by pressing the Stop button.
3. Go to the File Manager section.
4. Locate karmasettings.xml file then click edit file and make your preferred adjustments to Karma values and behavior.
5. Save the file to apply changes.
6. Restart your server to activate the updated settings.
